Tesla activates new passive safety feature

With the OTA 2025.2.6 update, Tesla has finally decided to enable a passive safety software feature thanks to the presence of a cabin radar . Placed above the interior rearview mirror (in the same location as the interior camera), this advanced sensor can detect the presence and position of passengers on board, thus improving safety and driving comfort.

💥 Adaptive airbag deployment

Thanks to this radar, Tesla can intelligently adjust airbag deployment based on the position and morphology of the occupants. In the event of a collision, this adaptation helps reduce the risk of injury and avoid unnecessary activation of certain airbags, thus limiting repair costs following a major impact.

👶 Enhanced safety for rear passengers

On recent models like the Model Y Juniper , the cabin radar can also detect the presence of occupants in the rear 🚼. This advancement is particularly useful for preventing children or pets from being left in the vehicle 🐶. If detected, an alert is sent to the owner to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable.

📡 How does cabin radar work?

Unlike cameras that monitor driver attention, this radar emits radio waves capable of detecting subtle movements such as breathing. This technology ensures accurate detection, even if passengers are covered by objects or blankets, guaranteeing optimal protection 🎯.

If your Tesla is equipped with one, you'll simply need to launch the free update from the screen or your smartphone. Otherwise, you'll receive a message to come and install the radar free of charge at a Tesla service center.

By enabling this feature, Tesla continues to innovate to improve safety and comfort on board its vehicles while fully exploiting existing technologies 🔋⚡.
